Question

Why does FM redraw images twice ?

Often - but not always - FM redraws linked images twice when I scroll through my documents. This puzzles me and is also annoying, as it takes a long time scrolling down to check the layout and such when FM is constantly double-checking the images. Does anyone have a clue what is happening here and - more importantly - how I can tell FM to stop doing this ?

Thanks in advance for any light in this darkness...

Jang

    Jang,

Esc v v toggles graphics display, which may be useful to you.

    Jang,

If you are working from servers, Kenneth's suggestion for using EPS (good idea) may or may not help; it depends upon your connection to the servers.

If you do not need to see the images as you scroll through, say for correcting pagination or just proofreading text, you can turn off the display of the images by selecting View > Options and the CLEAR the Graphics option but SELECT the Borders on Objects option. Frame will then display the borders of the anchored frames but not their content. If you arrive at a page at which you need to see the image, then you can turn ON the display of the graphics.

    Good luck,

Years ago, working with 1200 ppi B&W TIFF scans, I got frustrated with
waiting 60 seconds or more for each scan to redraw as I scrolled through
pages. So I started saving my scans in EPS. EPS stores the full
resolution scan for printing and PDF, but onscreen in Frame it displays
    only the low-res header.

Result: lightning-quick low-quality display with no final output quality
sacrifice. FM may be redrawing twice, but it's happening so fast I can't
    tell.
