52deg geometric Mountain peaks help!

Hi, I do vehicle wraps and graphics. My customer is wanting a graphic (see pic) of mountains to decal their vehicle and camper. How do I set up illustrator so that it will snap to off angles? i.e. 52degreees.

There are lots of tutorials for how to do this with 45deg angles.

Or is there a better way to design this?

Magillag,

In order to obtain the angles 45 and 52 degrees and have the same width of the two parts as shown in your what they want image and then cutting at the angles shown, you can, Smart Guides being your friends (you can work on top of the current artwork after locking it):

1) Create the rightmost 45 degrees part by ClickDragging with the Line Tool and a Stroke Weight equalling the desired width (no fill);

2) Create the leftmost 52 degrees part by Clicking with the Line Tool on an empty spot, then inserting a sufficient length and 232 degrees (you will have the same Stroke Weight);

3) ClickDrag leftmost part from 2) by the upper right end Anchor Point with the Selection Tool to snap to the upper left end Anchor Point of the rightmost part from 1), then Join;

Save a backup;

4) Object>Path>Outline Stroke to get a filled path

5) With the Line Tool create another line at 52 degrees as in 2), then reduce the Stroke Weight enough to see what you are doing, then ClickDrag it to where you wish to have the rightmost part cutoff, then Object>Path>Divide Objects Below (you still have the angle at 52 when you just Click);

6) Repeat 5) only by ClickDragging a horizontal line With the Line Tool and use it for the leftmost part cutoff.

Create a bunch of lines or rectangles, rotate them numerically by 52 degrees, right-click and convert to guides.

You can set up an angle in Preferences General. Shapes you draw then, will be snapping to it. Also you can set up angles in the Smart guides.

But will you really waste all that material when cutting those decals? Instead of packing them closely?
