Question

AI suddenly running very slow for simple tasks

MacBook Pro, 2022 M2 8GB, CC

I understand not a strong machine but I have NEVER had a problem design merch or flyers for my business and suddenly a very small simple file ground to an absolute halt using shape builder. Every next tiny subtraction became increasingly longer to render. Minutes on minutes. Wtf... AI24 or generative tools bogging down? Just trying to run separations for simple logos 😭

8 GB of RAM is only half of the recommended amount of RAM.

On top of that: do you have the Magnet app running?

that may be however why only now is this an issue and to go from running perfectly fine to being unable to work on the smaller and simplest file with only several basic shapes in one day?

no, I do have the magnet app. It's not native on apple, correct?

thanks for replying!

So you could work on the same version yesterday and then today you opened the same file and it doesn't work?

Or did it work better in the older version?

Newer versions typically need more power because they have more functionality.

But also newer systems need more power. So if it worked on an older system and now it doesn't work anymore, then you have the culprit.

Are you running Sonoma? There are a lot of issues with it. And the Magnet app (yes, third party) also causes issues.

You might want to get in contact with Customer Care and have them take a look into it. Before you do, maybe do some system reboots and reset Illustrator's preferences. This will erase all your settings. But Customer Care will make you do it anyway. https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
