Question

Aligning Text Vertically in Area Type

I created a text area with columns and rows. I can align the text horizontally but I am unable to align text vertically.

Please see the image I attached. I would like my text to be aligned to the vertical center of the "cell" they are written (green line) but they remain alligned to top. I changed multiple options to achieve what I wanted but no luck. Is there a way to do it or am I missing something?

You could use the First Baseline setting

Thanks for the suggestion. I have already tried them all but I think they are font and type dependent (sorry if I am using wrong terminology here). As soon as I change anything like font family, size, style, etc. alignment is broken. If there are no rows or columns, changing "area type align function" to center provides what I want but it does not affect any text in columns and rows.

Yes, the First baseline depends on the font and size.

But the alignment does not work the way you want. Illustrator is just not built for tables.
