Question

Cant enlarge traced image

Hi,

Recently started learning Illustrator...

I've traced over a placed template. Probably the wrong way to do it, but i created each arm, bottom part of dress, top part of dress, head, and hair seperately. So I could but the grey folder in and tuck it behind her arms. Seem ed to work just how I wanted.

100% sure there is a better way of doing this.

The traced template was very small, so I carried on as I thought I would be able to enlarge it anyway. Now I cannot enlarge the whole image and it has the red outline box, the same as the placed template.

Help please!

Hi @Jamie Transport,

It's great that you're learning Illustrator and exploring different techniques. Regarding your issue, it seems that you traced over a placed template, and now you are unable to enlarge the whole image.

As Monika said, one thing to check is whether the placed template is still part of the group you created. It could be hidden, which is why you are unable to enlarge the whole image. If you don't need the placed template anymore, you can simply delete it.

In the future, it might be better to trace over the template directly on a new layer rather than creating separate shapes for each part of the image. This will make it easier to manipulate the image as a whole and resize it without any issues.

Also, you can try expanding from the Object menu > Expand/ Expam appearance and see if that helps.

Let us know if this helps or if you have any further questions.

Best,

Anshul Saini

You could check the group whether the placed image is still part of it. Maybe it's hidden. If you don't need it anymore: just delete it.
