Double Click does not open file anymore

Hello, since a while illustrator stopped opening files when using double click in the explorer or on smart objects in photoshop. i have restarted the pc, i have deleted the settings, nothing helps. i can only open files using the file menu in illustrator, which is really annoying.

 

btw, i am on windows 10 64bit, 32GB ram

 

please, is there a solution to this?

Is the file association in your system correct?

Double click opening is handled by the system.

sorry, i forgot to mention that illustrator starts right away, but doesn't open the file or smartobject

We understand how frustrating it can be to encounter technical issues. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps? Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and sharing your observations.
