If you're talking about just using a Spot Red in place of Magenta for process printing then it seems to me that the easiest way is just to use Spot Red ink in place of Magenta ink when printing the job as process. There would then be no need to do anything different in preparing the computer file.

Is this about editing photos?

Or vector graphics?

If iot's about photos, then you might want to ask in the Photoshop board. Better yet, since you have never done it and it's also about something to eat: you might want to hire a professional to do it. You don't want edibles look bad on a packaging (it's a packaging, right?).
