I can't use Enter / Return key when typing - Why can't I press enter to start a new line of text?

I can't use Enter / Return key in type - Why can't I press enter to start a new line of text?

For example:

I can't press Return

Like this:

and start a new line of text

or the Enter key

(or use soft return holding the shift key) it just jumps out of the text and selects the text box

Each time I'm typing and press Return or Enter Illustrator goes out of type and selects the text box instead.

I'm having to type in Notes or an Email to create the correct type. Please help.

I've check all my text settings including Leading. I've also checked and this works normally in Illustrator 26.5 so it means I'm using that and not the Beta version.

I'm using Illustrator Beta Version 26.6 on Mac OS Monterey 12.5.1

That's what beta versions are for. You volunteer to find problems and report them. You can't expect it all to work. Make sure to use the beta forum to report problems.

yeah sure understood but also wasn't sure if this was an oversight in settings I've missed. It could be a simple check box I've missed that isn't a bug? I've trawled through settings and preferences to try and find an answer but with no luck yet, hence me looking here for answers.
