Illustrator distorting text

I am working on a file that has text and graphics. When I am in the file from my desktop everything looks as it should. If I move the file to my CC folder to share accross devices the text becomes invisible or scrambled.

Before and after screen shots are attached. Once this happens in the file, it seems to corupt it for good. I have tried saving copies, starting new documents and pasting the work into the brand new file, but nothing seems to work.
