Illustrator keeps crashing. Maybe because of the Wacom tablet.

Hey everyone,

My Adobe Illustrator keeps crashing all the time and it started after the latest update to 27.2 version.

I think it's because of some Wacom Intous Pro pen settings, because when it crashes, Illustator crash report redirects me on the webpage, where there are some advices about how to setup Wacom, drivers etc.

I used to select "use as a mouse" in Wacom pen's mapping options. So maybe this comes in conflict with Windows 11's pen settings? (I also use a bluetooth mouse with my laptop) Then I tried to select "use as a pen" maping option, but the speed of the cursor was very slow, so I was manualy remaping the tablet - I was selecting a small portion of the tablet, to make it move fatser.

I have installed latest drivers for Nvidia (It's a laptop with AMD procesor wit integrated graphics + Nvidia RTX 3060) - I also instaledd the latest Wacom driver, also windows is up to date, but the crash is happening anyway.

Hope you can give me some adwise, to find out what is causing thees crashes.

Thank you and have a nice day

Hi @Irakli Topuria,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you've been experiencing with Illustrator crashing!
This has been a reported issue by multiple users in recent weeks. The product team is aware of this and currently working on a fix.

In the meantime, some users have reported success by rolling back the Wacom driver to a previous version, such as 6.4.0-11 or 6.3.46-2. Would you be willing to give that a try?

Please let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini

Hi! Thank you for sharing the issue. I thought that I'm alone with this very strange problem.

It's May 2023 now and it seems that Wacome and Adobe still didn't fix the bag.

I will try the older Wacom driver as was suggested.

Hi @christopherc88806812,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration caused by this problem. We are aware of the issue with Wacom tablets, and our team is working with Wacom to find a solution. Soon Wacom will be rolling out monthly updates for their drivers containing potential fixes. In the meantime, using an older Wacom driver may be a temporary workaround. Please keep in mind that updating to the latest version of Illustrator will not cause any issues if you keep using an older Wacom driver.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Best,

Anshul Saini

Thank you for answer. I installed Wacoms old driver (version 6.4.0-8) and it's working fine. I've also contacted Wacom team, and they said that they are working on this issue, so waiting for the new driver update.
