Illustrator problem

I received illustrator artwork in which a refinement layer has been created in the form of a path. 
This layer also contains a link, but I cannot select or delete this link. 
All the shapes used in this layer are not even visible in vector mode, only the outer line is visible.
How can I reach this link?
