If it works fine in Safe Mode, then you can open other apps one by one and see which one is conflicting with Illustrator. You can use Task Manager/ Activity Monitor to identify the culprit and then close or uninstall it on your user account. Once done, launch the app in normal mode.

Another cause could be due to corrupt preferences. In this case, you may try resetting them.

What have you tried to fix it? Did you reset or trash prefs? Restart Illy? Restart your computer?

Did you just update either your OS or Illy?

Can you give us a bit more information please?
