Problem Exporting Image with Drop Shadow

I'm trying to export an image with a drop shadow from Illustrator. I need an image with transparency, so I've tried exporting it to a PNG with a transparent background. When I export the image, it has white boxes around the parts of the image that have drop shadows. What do I need to do to export this correctly? Thanks!

Which Illustrator version? What do you use for export to PNG? Export as... or Export for screens? What kind of PNG?

Version 28.0. I've tried Export As and Export for Screens (PNG and PNG 8).

Can you share an example .ai file? It is hard to replicate.

Ai file cannot be attached in this forum 😞
