Question

Problem with size of drawing area

My artboard is 11in wide by 5 in tall. I have an item on the art board that I need to move towards the left edge (as I face  my  monitor).  I get it 3/4 of the way there then I get an error saying that the item can't be moved any further because the transformation would make some of the objects fall completely off the drawing area.  I have my object highlighted and all I am trying to do is move it over.  I don't understand how my object will fall off the drawing area when my artboard is o nly 11x5.

I appreciate any guidance.

Is there a clipping mask? Your visible art may be small enough to fit on the artboard but your whole art might be huge.

Look at the doc in Preview mode (ctrl-Y [pc]) and see if that reveals the hidden art.

As for your "Anything is possible. How would I know?" - you might want to try and help yourself proactively...

Thanks for the guidance.  I think you are taking my words "how would I know" the wrong way.  I did not mean it sarcasticly, I meant it looking for guidance as in how would I know if that was happening?  I do try and be proactive, I assure you.  I've been working with AI for just a few  months and this is the first time I have not been able to figure out things for myself.

Are you sure you didn't select an invisble item or a guide?

Is Vthe Bounding box visible? It shows you the scope of the selection. You can't move the bounding box past the canvas bounds
