Retype Font on Illustrator - Personal Font

I have downloaded a font onto my device, however as I am using Retype on Illustrator to use that font it does not pop up as one of the suggestions. How do I find that font to retype my Logo letters? Is it using Retype or is there another way? or does it have to do with the location of the downloaded font on my computer?

So you downloaded and installed a font that you know has been used for a piece of text but Retype does not recognize that?

Correct,

When I open retype, and select " Filter" - " From your device" , only other fonts appear and gives me limited options, none of which is the one I downloaded.

I was able to have it appear, I had to add it to the Font Book on the Mac. However, my issue now is that it will not apply it when I press on it, but does apply it for the other fonts.
