Separating Shadow from related Object

Hello

I imported a raster image into Illustrator, applied Shadow to it (Effect>Stylize>Drop Shadow); but both (image & its shadow) are at the same layer and I cannot select one of them without selecting another. I need to seperate them to select only the Shadow.

How can I do it?
