Shape Turning Black When Trying To Add Gradient To The Stroke

Hi! Could someone help me? I created an arrow and I need to make the stroke gradient, however it turns black. It's like I can't add it at all.  I appreciate the help very much in advance, thank you!

I assume you're talking about an open path with an arrowhead applied to one end of it, correct? Check the tool bar for the Fill and Stroke icon at the bottom. Is the Stroke portion of that active and up front when your path is selected? Gradients will be applied to the stroke if that Stroke portion is up front rather than the Fill icon.

If that isn't the problem then check the Appearance panel to see what fills or effects could be applied to the path. Normally a gradient can be applied to a line stroke without any extra steps involved.
