STOP UPDATES • ARRETEZ LES MISES A JOUR

US :
I don't understand illustrator updates anymore.
I've been working with it since version 3.2, a lifetime ago.
When Adobe switched to monthly systems, they promised the moon and the dream. We were supposed to have great tools, even better sharpened for the job. You bet! Just look at the forum. Simple and indispensable ideas that have been requested have never been taken into account for 15 years!  By dint of useless novelties, Illustrator has forgotten the essentials!
On my 2009 Mac in HighSierra with 8 GB of RAM, my illustrator 2020 is a rocket.
On my 2020 Macs in Catalina with 16 GB of RAM, my illustrator 2021 is a turtle: display, move an object, recurrent crash because never enough memory!
THE PROBLEM is:
- I can't use AI 2020 on Catalina and that...
- I don't want to use AI 2022 because it is even worse and full of bugs (for example a tool window that doesn't want to open when I click on it).
It's becoming a bit of an angst!

FR :

Yes this can be frustrating and High Sierra was one of the most stable apple OS to work with Adobe suite in my opinion and the computers I service. I too am on Catalina on my 2016 Mac as have seen many unresolved  problems with Big Sur & Monterery on the forums so hesitate to update as those OS give me no benefit and open up risk. The time is running near though for me  to update, but I am planning a new computer for Christmas 2022 when have off from work so incase goes bad have time to troubleshoot. A couple of suggestions for your mac 2020

  • check for any nonstandard OS modifiers from virus software to wacom driver than need updating or removal
  • reset your OOBE
  • install AI2022 as an additional version, it does not have many bugs for me on my Catalina 2016 setup.
  • run disk utility and fix persmissions
  • restart your computer and run only Illustrator. If works good, then boot your web browser and under privacy and security reset your cache back to forever

OOBE RESET MAC

  1. Quit the Creative Cloud desktop app  (100% you must do this)
  2. The \Users\<user folder>\Library\ is hidden by default for macOS 10.7 and above. Option click on the GO in the mac finder to reveal the Library folder.
  3. /Users/<user folder>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE
  4. Delete all the files within the OOBE folder, but do not delete the folder itself.

Good Luck Stef G, would love to hear back from you and hopefully with good news.

You can stop the automatic updates in the Creative Cloud app.

Alternatively you can leave your old version on the computer and still install the new one in order to try it out or just use functionality that you want to use.
