Two Objects with same color displaying differently.

Hello,

I have a series of black rectangles. They all look to have the same color.

However, when I place a white shape with transparency over them to kind of "fade" them, two of them seem to display different colors.

Going back to the rectangles, some of them have #231F20 listed as their color when I open up the color swatch. In the color picker, the swatch looks grayish, but in the document the object looks black.

The objects that appear darker (which don't "fade" under the white shape layer) under the white transparent shape, have #000000 listed when I look at their color swatch, and don't appear to be as "faded" as the other rectangles when the transparent white shape is over it.

Without the white fade shape over them, they both look like they're the same colors.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?

Exactly Black color will change depending on the value of Cyan, Magenta & Black or RGB if you are in RGB mode.

For example, You have 2 black colors in Illustrator swatches one ( Registration Black) and the other one ( Black )

The registration Black is 100,100,100,100 in CMYK it appears darker and working well with transparency but the Normal Black is 0,0,0,100 in CMYK it will appear more gray with transparency and gradients, It made to color the small text to print in one plate.

Okay, so I want the darker ones to appear more gray with the transparency, so I would have to change the 100, 100, 100, 100 in CMYK to 0,0,0,100?

Is that correct?

The darker ones are set to Registration color, 100% CMYK.

The lighter ones are 100 K

I'm not sure if I understand what that means.

Legend

They are different colors, with different RGB percentages, so they will naturally behave differently with transparency. Change them to the same color if you want them to behave identically.

I tried changing the darker ones (#000000) to #231F20, but then they look like they have different colors without the white fade layer.
