Unexplained Page Discrepancy Issue in Adobe Illustrator 2023 - Seeking Community Assistance

Hi Adobe community,

I'm encountering a perplexing issue with a PDF file I created using Adobe Illustrator 2023 about two months ago. Initially, I separated the file into single PDFs and sent them to my client. Today, when I reopened the same file in Adobe Illustrator, I was surprised to find an additional 5 pages with different artwork.

Interestingly, when I open the file in Adobe Acrobat online for page editing, it shows only a single page, which aligns with my original intention. I sought advice from ChatGPT, and it recommended using Adobe Acrobat. Despite trying this approach, the issue persists.

I've been using Adobe software for over 7 years, and this is the first time I've encountered such a problem. I even went as far as resetting my preferences in Adobe Illustrator, restarting the software, but the file still displays multiple pages.

The client hasn't complained about seeing multiple pages, indicating that the issue might be specific to Adobe Illustrator. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or have suggestions on how to resolve this discrepancy in page count between Illustrator and Acrobat?

Your insights and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Please tell us exactly what you opened in exactly which app and found what? Some pages that you didn't design?

Exactly how did you save these PDFs? With "Illustrator editing capabilities" enabled?

I created product labels for a specific product initially. The original document contained text across 5 pages along with JPEG barcodes. After completing the design, I split the artwork into individual files, each with a distinct name, and sent them to the client. However, today, when I made adjustments to one of the previously separated files and opened all these files again, I was surprised to find that two files had multiple pages when viewed in Adobe Illustrator. Interestingly, when I viewed the same files in another software, it displayed only one page. I typically use PDF-Exchange Editor for quick edits, and even that program shows just a single page for these files.
