Using "Edit Original" command from InDesign linked graphic opens multiple instances of Illustrator

Illustrator 26.5 (64-bit)
When I opened multiple linked eps images from an InDesign file using the "Edit Original" command,  it opened 3 instances of Illustrator (3 separate applications requiring me to quit each separately), 1 for each link I opened. This is something that just started with a recent update. Not sure if this is a Illustrator issue, or possibly InDesign or a file association issue.

I can no longer replicate, so  I am unable to tell what caused or fixed the behavior. I did not do anything other than a forced reboot to install weekly Windows updates.

Hi @tshelhorse,

We are sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. Would you mind resetting Illustrator & InDesign preferences and checking if that helps?

I am unable to replicate the issue on my end. If resetting preferences doesn't help, would you mind sharing a few details like:

  • The exact version of OS & InDesign
  • Is this happening with all files or a specific one?
  • Would it be possible for you to package the InDesign file and share the download link to the package folder here or via DM?
  • Do you have multiple Illustrator versions installed?

We are here to help. We just need more info.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

What format did you place in InDesign? Ai, Eps, PDF...?

Is that the same if you choose Edit with... from the Links panel

Also, you can always reset your preferences.
