When I save a vector object from Illustrator to the Library I only can re-import it as an image

do I miss something so I can reimport it a a vector object?

Ctrl click an item and choose Place Copy or drag with the Alt key pressed.

You probably placed a Link (the default).

Is there a way to change the dafault, so it is always copied?

Good to hear that helped. You cannot change the default behaviour, Alt drag is the way.

You may want to do a feature request so that it more behaves like placing files, when you check the link checkbox, that becomes the future behaviour, uncheck it and that becomes the default.
