Question

Default strike through

Windows 10 / up-to-date

For reasons unbeknown to me my character dialong has decided to default to strike-through. I'm certain there's a simple solution, but as of now, it simply escapes me. Can anyone help.

Thanks to those who know more than me,

Joe

Thanks to all who answered. I opened indd, removed the strikethrough and closed indd and it was gone. I had forgotten about that trick.

Things can be set to default if you

1) Have no documents open - and click that feature (it could be inadvertently done with a keyboard shortcut, I suppose)

2) With a document open - you may have inadvertently selected the feature with nothing else selected.

To get back to normal behaviour - with nothing selected check that Strikethrough is not selected in the Character Panel

And if it is you can turn it off.

Or if it's happening in new documents too - then with no documents open - ensure the feature is not turned on.

As others pointed out - it could be part of Character/Paragraph style etc.

But I suspect you accidentally clicked it on with nothing selected.

It may be corrupted preferences, but you also may have set it inadvertently as an app default.

Click anywhere so that no document object is selected. Open [Default Paragraph Style]. See if strikethrough is enabled there; if it is, un-check it. That should do it.

If not, repeat with whatever style is the base for your other doc styles. If this is the problem, it's set in some high-level style that is propagating to the others, which for most users is the default. (Which, by the way, should not be used... but that's another story.)

Any time you change a setting while nothing is selected, it — font, color, stroke, etc. — becomes the app default. It can be perplexing. 🙂

Could also be set as a local override rather than in a style. As above, but check to be sure strike though isn't selected in the character panel.
