Footnote numbers in table not being counted in auto-numbering

Hello,

I am placing a word document into InDesign. The document contains footnotes. The footnotes in the main body text are being counted perfectly in InDesign's autonumbering apart from footnotes in a table. The table contains two footnotes which should be number 278 and 279 but they show as 1 and 2. How do I make InDesign consider footnotes in a table as part of the same list of footnotes in the main body text?

Hi@2193864 ,

make sure that the table is not in its own text frame.

 

To change that, release the table from its own text frame and let it flow with the main text.

To do that:

[1] Select the table (all cells) and cut it to the clipboard.

[2] Do a new paragraph in your main text.

[3] Select the only text insertion point in that new paragraph.

[4] Paste the contents of the clipboard.

The numbering of the footnotes should change.

    Hi Uwe, I'm having difficulty with InDesign 2023 footnotes suddently going from 18 to 34 when adding a footnote to an item within a table. There is only one page of text between where the two footnotes are added. I added the table within the text flow and for some reason I can't get the footnote to number correctly. When I try to manually change the number, the footnote disappears.

    Update: I restarted InDesign and now all the footnote numbers are correct. Putting the table in the flow of text helped. I had it previously in its own text box which made the footnote numbers start over. This is resolved now.
