Question

IDML file created on the latest Indesign will not open on Indesign 2019.

Hello,

I worked on a brief for a client and he is super happy with the result. I sent him the packaged file with everything included including the IDML. His company is running Indesign 2019 and they cannot open any of my files. I am not sure what to do cause they are in another country and I can't help much more than giving advice on opening an IDML. Would it be possible for someone to test it for me?

So, since the .idml opens for us, the problem is probably on their end. Do they get any soert of error messages? Do y9ou know waht is happening when they try to open the files? Are they using InDesign, or possibly a translation engine that uses .idml as the source?

thank you for the IDML test file.

It opened in my installed InDesign CC 2019 on Windows 10 without any issues.

I just made a quick .idml test file in version 17 and it opened flawlessly in CS6 (don't have version 15 installed). I suspect the problem is on their end, but hard to know what it might be.

Can you share a page from your .idml for texting?

Try putting it on dropbox or other file sahre and post a link.

For the future IMO I would recommend that the agreement, with the final document, would be for you to supply a print-ready PDF to your customers supplied to the spec of their printer. Supplying InDesign files can raise all kinds of issues, as you have discovered.

Thanks for you reply.

It is a magazine template with lorum Ipsum and fake images. It is a newspaper agency who wanted me to provide guides in design, text and layout. they need the IDML/Indesign to finalise the magazine with their text and images.
