looking for a script or solution

I would like to know if there was a possibility that files containing thousands of InDesign files, which are used over and over again by a script or something else, can be converted to a newer InDesign version. The only way at the moment is to manually open and close all files one by one for a whole week.

You could use Peter Kahrel's batch convert script. I just tested it; it silently resaved a folder full of 18.5 / 2022 files as 19.0 / 2023 files. You can download the script from here. I made a folder full of copies of my 2022 files (because what if something went wrong? make sure you keep older versions just in case) and then ran the script:

Note that:

my target directory is the same as my source

I have "ignore errors" and "overwrite existing files" checked

InDesign book files (.indb) need no conversion. If you mean the indd files in a book, then you can select InDesign Book in the source dropdown.

That seems very logical to me. Thank you so much for your reply.

Hi @Devi Gooris,

Can you post a sample document? I think the easiest way might be to open a whole lot of files (not sure how many—might depend on your computer's available memory) and then run a script to save and close each of them. The scripting part isn't hard, but a demo file would be good because, from memory, a converted document might not have a file reference, so the ordinary saving won't work.
