Question

Page item adornments combining multiple frames on page.

In InDesign, it is possible to select multiple page items and group them together. This helps to represent the logical collection of frames visually to the designer. But, in our case, we have some use cases where physical InDesign groups do create issues for the designer(for instance, frames belonging to two different InDesign groups can't be grouped together etc.).

I am planning to use Page Item adornments to help visualize such logically connected frames, but the problem is that the to draw such an adornment(bounding box -dotted line connecting all the frames), we first need to create a group and then only adornment can be rendered.

If I draw adornment on one page item and extend it to other frames(based on some co-ordinate calculations), this adornment will not re-draw correctly if any frame is moved/deleted apart from the one on which adornment actually exists. To redraw the adornment correctly, I will have to put observers and observe the frame movements etc.

My questions is, Is it possible to draw such adornments combining multiple frames without the need to actually group them?

Is there any other way to do it apart from adornments?
