Pictures, texts, background disappears in inDesign but outputs fine

Occasionally, parts of my work will disappear from within inDesign. It doesn't show up in the regular screen or over print preview. It can be anything on that page: pictures, text boxes, backgrounds, lines, etc. I know it's still there cuz when I convert to pdf, it's all still there. But I can no longer edit the items that I can't see. And sometimes the items I can see, I can't click on it to move it around either. I've tried unlocking all on spread but still nothing. I use Windows 8.1 on a pc.

"accept now all the pages with missing items are now unclickable/uneditable. I tried ctrl+shift+left clicking on it and I tried object > unlock all on spread. "

Can you share the InDesign document?

If the items on the pages are not on the master pages and they are not locked, or the layers are not locked, you should be able to select them.

Well, the document could be damaged.

Hi Christina,

what's your exact version of InDesign on what operating system?

Will the issue go away if you save, close and reopen the document?

Thanks,
Uwe Laubender

Ah. You already mentioned Windows 8.1.

Why are you not able to update to Windows 10 or Windows 11?

I have tried saving, closing, and reopening but still same. I work on a work provided laptop so it's still Windows 8.1. I'll submit a request to get it upgraded but not sure how long that will take.
