Where is place>text import options>Indesign tagged text? Can export Indesign tagged text with ID 12 & 14 but cannot place, reading tags.

Tagged text is (should be) just plain (ASCII) text with tags in brackets. InDesign recognizes it as such, there are no options at Placing ;-:

    Hi Bud,

hm. Strange. Could be perhaps a text encoding issue. But that would not explain why a drag & drop is working and command Place… is not. What is the source of the tagged text file? An InDesign version on a Mac and you are on Windows?

    Hi budalitho,

so your InDesign Import will not recognize a *.txt file?

    What's your operating system?

Are you seeing file suffixes in your file sytem?

Be it Finder ( Mac OS X ) or Explorer ( Windows ).

    Uwe:

Well, I'm at a loss... the OS is Win10, InDesign 2017. Unless I'm completely out-to-lunch, with CS5.5, you had to select "InDesign Tagged Text" at the place>Show import options dialogue.

I tried drag-and-drop and the tags were recognized.  Now, when I Place>select file>text.txt the tags ARE recognized. I used the same file I tried before with no success- text was imported as plain text, with tags nor recognized as such.

I have no clue why the process now works without having to specify ID tagged text.

    Thanks for your help.

Drag and drop does, indeed, work.  Thanks for the answer.

Yes, you're right, but the question was "Reference for Adobe InDesign CC 2018 Tagged Text", right? And I have to say, no, I have not found an official description of TaggedText from Adobe. In the past they had on old description here for CS5 here:

    https://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/TaggedText/indesign_cs5_TaggedText.pdf

But this file is not available anymore (I've attached this file here). And there is an even older description of TaggedText for CS4 ( 😞 ). But this is not an official Adobe page:

    https://acdowd-designs.com/sfsu_access/indesign_cs4_taggedtext.pdf

Since TaggedText has hardly changed (or not at all, but we can't know that exactly), this description may help too.

I don't understand what is the issue, if you can't find the option to place the tagged text, did you try dragging and dropping the tagged text file into InDesign document? What happens if you try this?
