Shared Creative Cloud linked files create never-ending error pop-up for users

Hi,

Me and team have had huge problems with shared assets in Indesign when using a shared library. (19.4. version Id)

I'm the owner of the CC-Library and have shared the assets to others with the view-permission link, so they can use the assets, but can't modify the library, and everything has worked ok, until now.

Now when others try to open the files or drag&drop assets that have linked files in them, InDesign opens error "This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other users closes it. ".

And even if you close the pop-up, Id will open the error continuosly, which means the only way to quit is to close it from task manager. But then Id will recover the file, leading to the same error. So it's a hassle just to get InDesign back to working order again.

The link window will only show "Adobe PDF" in the links-panel and if you manage to relink the file somehow my closing the error screen and quickly navigate to the relink-options, you can get rid of the error pop-up (until you open another file/asset with linked files).

It seems that there is problems on either the permissions or how the lock files are stored or created in Creative Cloud when using Id. As the owner of the library, I don't get the same error.

Potential temp fix
has been to add Modify-permissions to users, but that creates problems when you have big team or external partners, who you don't want to modify the libraries.

Deleting preferences, re-adding the library, deleting lock-files or deleting local recovery files don't work, as the problem seems to be with how CC handles the linked files when using CC-libraries.

Hi All,

We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with CC Libraries in InDesign. Is it possible for you to share the screenshot of your "About Creative Cloud Desktop app" so that we can check?

There have been some issues going on with CC libraries, which are going to be fixed in the current release of the CC Library process. As of now, the rollouts are happening in phases.

Once you share the About Creative Cloud Desktop app, we can check further.

Thanks,

Harshika

The fix for now is to unintall 19.4 version and reinstall the 19.3 version. Fixed the problem.

Do you mean that it's a result of an update to 19.4 - and everything has been OK in an older version?

Can you downgrade?

This is a result of upgrading to 19.4., in 19.3. or earlier everything worked as intended.

But I can confirm, that if I add "Can edit" permissions to users, the CC-libraries work as they should, but if the user has "Can view" this error pops up.

I'll try to confirm if downgrading to 19.3. helps, but might take sometime as we WFH and people aren't the most experienced with using CC..
