text color and gradients

In my swatches I have two gradients. I used one of them to change the colour of some text. Now, when I apply a solid colour it comes out as a gradient as well. Gradient goes from colour to no colour.

Sounds like you added the Gradient using the Effects Panel.

This would explain why when changing text colour the gradient remains - as it's part of an overall effects style.

As @Steve Werner points out - the swatches should contain the gradient.

If you have applied the gradient through the Effects panel - the you can clear all transparency through the Effects Panel - and apply the gradient as per the swatches.
