Unable to check out Incopy file in InDesign 2023

Question

InDesign won't let me open an InCopy file by right-clicking a text block and going InCopy>Check Out. It asks me to choose a user, but my company has never used that feature and I don't want to limit who can work on it later.

Unrelated, this morning, InDesign decided to make all objects have a text wrap when I first placed them, so I've already reset all my preferences this morning. That may be related to what's going on, but I don't see a preference to change it back.

Help!

The user name is administrative, not security related. If you've never seen any of this, I wonder if you weren't using a third party extension to manage all of this.
