Question

when packaging indesign saves indd file as pdf

Hello All,

Recently, when I package a file in Indesign, the INDD file saves as a pdf. I have all other files that one would expect in a package, but I am left with two pdfs of the file, leaving me to open and edit the IDML if I want different versions of the document. While this work around is working so far, I would rather have the capability to save and have the document available - without packaging it - if I'm not done with it between work sessions.

EDIT: Never mind--didn't scroll down enough to see that @BobLevine already answered the same thing.

Turn on your file extensions so you can see if one is a ".pdf" and the other a ".indd".

It's possible your ".indd" files need to be reassigned to open in InDesign at the desktop level.

Turn on file extensions and you'll see that the INDD file is there. Then change the file associate from Acrobat to InDesign.

That's pretty wierd. Does this happen with any file? I'd try trashing the prefs: Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting
