.cr2 files from Canon 70D will not import into Lightroom Classic

Hello,

Lightroom Classic 12.0.1 and Camera Raw 15.0

PC: Windows 11 Pro v. 21H2

i7-12700

32GB RAM

I have photos from a past vacation I'm trying to import into Lightroom and all the .jpg files will import but not the .cr2 files from a Canon 70D.

I tried opening with Photoshop and I'm able to open the .cr2 files in Photoshop.

I can convert the .cr2 files to .jpg but this isn't manageable in the long term with many other directories and .cr2 images.  I really just want to open the .cr2 fiels in LR.

When I try to import the files in LR (using the import process, leaving the images in their current location - on an additional drive inside my PC).
File>Import Photos and Videos

One thing I just noticed - if I uncheck "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" then I am able to import the .cr2 files.
For added clarity - there are no .jpg versions of the files in the LR catalog.

Is there some history of files imported into lightroom?  I may have imported them in another catalog years ago.  I'm rebuilding a new catalog now.

Thoughts?  I've done all the updates and am at a loss.

These are duplicates. You should NOT import them a 2nd time, that could cause problems.

Catalog history is contained in a single catalog. It doesn't matter if you imported them into another catalog, the reason this won't work with this catalog is that they have already been imported into THIS catalog.

I agree- it is interesting that unchecking the box works- but it does.  Without unchecking the box, LR does not recognize the .cr2 files.

As I said, I may have imported them earlier into this catalog - but I have migrated drives (and built a whole new computer).

For now- it is working to uncheck that box.  I'll just make sure I leave it unchecked for future imports, unless there is a better way to have LR import the files from their current drive/directory.
