Question

Hello,

I'm missing a few things that would be really useful:

- be able to save an image with lightroom settings by overwriting the source file, without necessarily having to export the file, which requires mnaually replacing the old one with the new one then re-synchronizing the directory on lightroom etc.

That would be really great.

"be able to save an image with lightroom settings by overwriting the source file"

No RAW converter will ever overwrite the source file. As DJ says, that's entirely contrary to the entire fundamental premise of shooting RAW, where - regardless of the software you use - the RAW original is left untouched, and you generate "copies" of the file which include your edits.

You're basically asking for LightRoom notto be LightRoom, and RAW not to be RAW.

Thank you very much for your reply. I wasn't talking about RAW files, only jpg files for example. But I understand the reasoning behind the spirit of the software.
Thanks a lot!

But as Lr is primarily a RAW converter, it's going to do what it's designed to do regardless of the format of file you present to it - it's not really designed as a jpeg image editor, even though it can handle non-RAW files, so you get the same workflow regardless of file type.

I know this has feature has been requested in the past, but there is no real way to do this. This request runs entirely opposed to the fundamental workings of Lightroom Classic, which is based upon non-destructive editing and storing the edits in the catalog file. And because of that, I think it unlikely it will ever be implemented.
