Question

Exporting as catalogue from temp catalog now produces an extra folder when imported to main one

When I want to export a catalogue from my laptop (temporary catalogue) to the main catalogue it now creates an extra folder. I sort my catalogue according to dates. With the previous version of LR, I would export the catalogue to my desktop. Looking at it there are 3 levels (2023/2023-01-27 as an example/then the list of photos) but now when I do this function it has 4 levels (Lightroom Photos/2023/2023-01-27/list of photos. Then when I import the temp catalogue into my main catalogue, it creates a folder outside the date.

I have called customer service and they advise me to report this bug. The customer rep said that this was done to stop people deleting folders by accident. I don't understand how this would stop this. In fact it adds whole new problems. I have to then go into that extra folder and choose the day and then slide it up to the corresponding year. This is fine when it is only one folder but when you have 10 folders there is lots of reasons this can cause problems such as deleting a folder that wasn't intended to be deleted, the very thing that Adobe was trying to stop by adding this extra folder.

I would really appreciate it if you could add my name to list of people that didn't want this changed and hopefully you will have changed it by next update. Thank you

"when I import the temp catalogue into my main catalogue, it creates a folder outside the date."

I think I have replied to your similar question elsewhere, however TBMK (and in my experience)- the Merge Catalog process does not automatically merge files and folders into the 'dated' folder structure of the Main Desktop catalog. It simply adds the folder structure from the Laptop into the Desktop catalog as a new and separate folder heirarchy.

It is upon YOU to 'Clean up' the folder structure of the Main Desktop Catalog after the merge.

See 'Stage 4 - Clean up' in this link: Step#4 especially.

Hello Rob,

Yes you answered me with this before but I am putting this on here as the service support person asked me to so adobe could see it. It wasn't a cry for help as it can't be fixed, only Adobe can fix it as they introduced this in the last update. The service person said Adobe introduced this as a way for people not to delete their photos by mistake. I don't understand that this would help. If a person double checks that a transfer was actually done before deleting the folder it came from then that would stop it from deleting by accident. So Rob if you could delete your comment then maybe Adobe can see that it hasn't been answered and they will read it as intended, a wish that they would put back what they changed
