Intermittent "Error Working with Video"

I have been importing video and photos from my iphone using a work around since lightroom cannot do that without shuffleing the files to the wrong folders never to be found again. Now lightroom will not recognize video files at random from the same day and time at random. Some it sees some it gives and "error Workgin with Video" message.  I can go to finder and see the videos and play them in quick time.  Is anyone else experienceing this? I used lightroom for professional workflows and now I am trying to use it to preserve famliy memories in order and it has been a MASSIVE disaopointment.  It does not work with iphone files without a huge amount of invoniene and uncertainty. Does anyone use a better software for iphone photo and video preservation? Adobe is almost useless for that purpose.
