Lightroom Classic Doesn't Generate a Public Link

Hello,

For the past few months I have been having an issue where Lr refuses to generate a public link for my catalogs. It will sync, but the number rarely ever goes to zero, but that has never prevented link generation in the past. Sometimes it says it is public, but the link generation just hangs. The catalog also does not show up on my phone. Which leads me to believe it is syncing everything else except the current catalog.

It has become a frewquent issue, and I seem to find random fixes, but this time nothing is working. This is how I share photos with clients for review, so it has been a huge stress on me not being able to do so.

I've tried signing in and out on all devices. Deleted sync data. Reset Lightroom at launch.

I have not however deleted all the sync data – I can't afford to do that at the moment.

Any help to solve this would be great. Thanks in advance!

It's good to know that I'm not the only one whose having a hard time with this generating a URL link.  I have been pulling my hair out for a long time.  It's a great feature "when it works".  But Adobe needs to dig in and make this thing work better and more consistantly.  But what I have discobvered is that before you can successfully generate a URL, you have to check the little cloud icon at the upper right and make sure it has a little green circle showing.  That's the signal that all the syncing is complete.  THEN you have a much better chance of success.

You’ve posted to a very old thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same issue which you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information including system information, a complete description of the problem and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.

In the unlikely event the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location.

Thank you!

And - How do you make an Album (Classic Collection) public?

Do you click on the tab above the previews in the Classic Library? This method immediately creates a Public Link to copy-

Or do you [Right-Click] on the Collection marked to sync, and choose [make  Collection public]?

In your first post you state- "syncing everything else except the current catalog."

The only "everything else" possible would be photos taken on your mobile device (iPhone, etc) that might be syncing down to Lr-Classic.

And you do have only one "current catalog"?  Do you know that you can only ever sync from one (and the same) catalog- not multiple catalogs! You cannot change from one catalog to another and expect the Sync of all photos to work correctly.

I would like to rant here- I think Adobe should never use the word "Sync" with Lightroom-Classic for uploads to the web. Rather it should be called -"Previews to share on the web", because that is all it will do. It does not sync 'up' full-size image files as many expect it to (including many that ask for sync between two Lr-Classic installs). Images taken on mobile devices do "sync" down, but again this could be called "Import from a mobile device".

@WobertC

I usually click the button as shown. But it just gives me the spinning wheel. Sometimes it says it is public, but there is no link, and I cant see it on my phone, after minutes of spinning. Sometimes it stays private after minutes of spinning.

Every now and then I do i via the right click option hoping that the results will be different. But it never is.

I have a cataglog for every shoot that I do. So I have multiple catalogs.  When I say it is "syncing everything else except the current catalog" I mean that when I load a catalog and initiate the sync, instead of syncing jsut that collection of lets say 500 photo or however many I selcted for the collection, it doesn't start the sync count from 500. It  starts at like 34k and goes down from there, so that is why I say it seems to be syncing ALL my other photos, except the current one. When it works, in a few minutes it would be synced even if the count doesn't drop from 30k+ to 0, but during this problematic time, no amount of time waiting helps. Hope that clarifes.

Yes I do know that i can only sync one collection at a time, one from the catalog that is opened at the time.
That's always the goal, to get the previews sent off to the client.

I agree with the rant.

I still cannot understand your statement-

"I have a cataglog for every shoot that I do. So I have multiple catalogs."

You can only sync from ONE catalog, and ONE ONLY!!

The ONE catalog can contain many Collections that are synced. Your 'Shoots' should ALL be imported to the one Catalog and placed in Collections for each shoot.

Every time you 'open' another Catalog from a different 'shoot' you must be seeing the error message, and Lr-Classic is then trying to download (sync) ALL the photos you have every synced from other Catalogs- causing chaos, and no doubt, the spinning wheel!.

mdrhone,

You use the plural word "catalogs". Do you mean "Collections"?

Lightroom-Classic can only sync the Collections from ONE catalog to the cloud.

@WobertC
I see what you are saying. Yes I am refering to the collections withing the catalogs. Most of the collections I sync are the entire catalog, so that is why I refered to it that way.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. Morover, when I open the file which I need to synch, it adopts the link from the last Collection I have opend before, no matter which....Curious how to fix it and also waiting for the quick answer!

Petraj,

You state- "when I open the file which I need to synch"

What do you mean by "open the file"? Do you mean you view the photos in a selected Collection?

Again it is only possible to sync from ONE Catalog .
