Lightroom Classic not reading Photoshop 2024 psd files

I cannot figure out how to get Lightroom Classic to read Photoshop 2024 psd files.  Lightroom shows the psd file as a blank with the mesage 'Lightroom has encountered a problem reading this file - you will not be able to make adjustments to the photo'.

    A layered psd must have been saved with "maximize compatibility" on in Photoshop Preferences. If not, check the box and resave the file.

     

    This inserts a flattened composite that Lightroom can read. Lightroom does not support layers.
