Lightroom Library is not seeing pictures on the external hard drive it always uses

I'm using same external drive and same laptop I always did but after being off for a month when I open up the Library it shows all my pictures but everyone has the "can't find photo" icon. I see the folders in the Library.  I see the pictures on the hard drive.  I tried to "find" a photo but then it eliminated all the pictures in that Library Folder and wouldn't let me find the photo.  Folder that had 65 pictures now shows zero in the library folder.  

When I look further down on my Library column of sources, I now see a second listing of my External Drive (same name) and it now shows those pictures that it zeroed out (see above) in their proper folder.

Did I do something wrong? or How can I get everything in its folder and seen again. Do I have to go through every folder and "Find" or is there a blanket command I can use to have it recognize the external drive it always used.
