I do not understand message or what to do to correct it.

When I try to transfer image to LR Classic I get this message

Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/LR HD 10TB/2023-08-22/2023-Aug-22-_X1A3133.CR3 for editing.

It will not be opened.

Thanks for the help everyone

I feel silly but I solved the problem! My external harddrive is full 😞

It is a 10TB but I filled it much more quickly then imagined after getting a mirrorless camera and shooting wildlife

(It was already half full storing backups of previous harddrives)

How is the external disk formatted? This usually happens when it is not in the system native format (APFS or HFS+ extended for macs) and is related to capitalization of the names of the folder.

Do you see an exclamation mark on the photo while in grid view, and/or a question mark on the folder in the folder panel?

No explanation or question mark.

I don't know if this is relavent but my images are on a harddrive

Also, can process images and export without problem.

Do you have your Apple settings / Preferences > Security and Privacy set to allow all the applications involved to have Full Disk access?

Correction to above:  when II try to transfer image to TOPAZ DENOISE

I don't use Topaz Denoise myself so I do not know this for sure, but it may use a trick to open the original raw file rather than getting a tiff from Lightroom. In that case, there may be a permissions problem with Topaz rather than Lightroom which causes this. That would explain why this happens when you send the image to Topaz, and not when you edit it in Lightroom or export it. Check that Topaz has full disk access too.
