Question

(MacOS 12.5)LrC 14.4.1 Left side panels won't hide/show, and collections panel is empty.

LrC 14.4.1 Mac Intel Monterey 12.5

The left side panels won't show/hide anymore (just show or not show, no mouse over functionality), but more importantly the Collections Panel is empty - it's visible, but empty. When I click Create New Collection, nothing happens.

I can't see my synced collections, however photos from my iPhone are downloading to my desktop.

I can see Collections in a different catalog.

I tried Optimizing the Catalog, with no differences. I have about 7500 photos in this catalog.

Any ideas about this?

Maybe this is the wrong catalog file.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. We are sorry for the trouble with Lightroom Classic. I'd love to help you figure this out.

Where is the catalog stored? Is it on the internal drive or an external drive? Go to Edit > Catalog Settings > General > Location:

Have you tried using a recent backup of this catalog, does that work as expected?

Do you have any library filters active at the moment?

This could be a damaged catalog. We can bring everything from an existing & probably damaged catalog to a new catalog.

Copy the primary catalog in question and place it on your computer's desktop.

  • Press the OPT (macOS) when launching Lightroom Classic.
  • Choose the option to create a new catalog and create a new one on the internal drive.

  • In the new catalog, head to File > Import from Another Catalog, as shown below.

Proceed with merging the (potentially)corrupted catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog.

For more help via video-based steps, check here. See Merging individual catalogs into a master catalog

Let us know how it goes from here,

Thanks!

Hi Sameer,

Thanks for the advice.
Started a new catalog on the internal drive (internal drive is partitioned into several volumes, so catalog is not in the default location)

Importing old catalog stops (beach ball) when it hits Updating Imported Collections.

Next, I'm going to try going back to an uncorrupted backup, then adding the new files. Wish me luck! 🙂
