New catalog in Lightroom Classic running SLOW

Help! So I had a huge catalog - About a years worth. I decided to create a new Catalog with a few months from this year. All of a suddden in this new Catalog, my LR is running very slow. When I go from picture to picture it takes about 10 seconds to show the image.

My computer is new and has been working fine until today when I created the new catalog.
Apple M2 Max, 32GB Memory. Studio 5K screen.

I hold all of my raw images on an SSD card which has about 20GB of space left. I was storing my LR on the SSD card too however after creating the new catalog today I moved it to my desktop.

I have optimised, cleared caches, etc... Not sure what the problem is! It shouldn't be this way as the much bigger older catalog was running perfectly..

Your description suggests that LrC is building previews as you loupe walk through. This can be especially time consuming when loupe walking in the Develop module.

Also check that Spotlight is not indexing the hard drive storing your photos and LrC isn't running Face Detection in the background.

BTW, a hard disk should ideally have 15-20% space remaining. Using this free space factor, your 20GB of free space suggests that the photos are being stored on a 100GB hard disk, which I very much doubt is the case.
