Upon importing from my iPhone to LR Classic, a 2nd image is created.

I'm on LR Classic 13.0.1, iOS 17.0.4 on an iPhone 14 Pro, MacBookAir M1 on Sonoma.

When I import photos to LR Classic from my iPhone I get the original image, plus a 2nd image that is cropped.   I can easily filter and delete all the 2nd cropped images, but I would like to prevent these images from being created.   I don't see anything in the LR preferences, or in the import settings that would generate a 2nd cropped image.   An example original image filename is IMG_0222.HEIC, and the 2nd cropped image that is generated is IMG_E0222.HEIC.  Any idea what is causing this?
