Question

What is the best way to move entire Pictures folder in LR Classic?

Hi everyone,

I just signed up with HiDrive, a 3Tb cloud storage.

I'd like to sync my entire 'pictures' folder to create a cloud backup.

But this folder is the root folder for my LR Classic database.

So I was wondering what the best course of action is?

My thought:

1. Move the whole folder (1,3Tb) with file explorer to the new location through the 'location' tab in the properties section of the folder

2. Use the 'find missing folder' option in LR to tell LR where I moved the folder.

Will this work? Better ideas are more thans welcome.

Thanx in advance!

Kind regards,  Mark

You may 'Sync' images to Cloud storage, but you must not 'Move' them to Cloud storage!

LrC requires 'local' access to the original files.

Creating Smart Previews for all your photos may work, but again, prone to problems as @dj_paige states.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Not sure I understand... original photos belong in their own folder and not any sort of "sync folder". I guess that's the part I don't understand ... what do you mean by "sync folder"?

The method you stated is the best method.

You really need to be careful about putting your photos in a folder that is synced to the cloud. Lots of problems are reported, such as corrupted photos, and photos not being found, and other problems as well. You might want to read other threads in this forum about using a folder synced to the cloud. I don't know if any of that applies to HiDrive, but you would be wise to be informed.

Thanx! Good tip. I'll do some extensive digging before I move the folder.
