Question

Work flow using LR Classic with a tethered Nikon D-610

I am trying to come up with an efficient workflow for digitizing a collection of 5,000 slides.  I started the project using my Dimage Scan Dusl IV.  The scan time is high and then importing into Photoshop for processing was taking a lot of time.  I already have a Nikon D-610.  I have fitted it with a Nikon  AF-S Micro 60mm Nikkor f2.8G ED macro lens and an ES-2 slide adapter.  Tethering works fine.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to capture, make any changes, and place the image in the defined directory in an efficient manner.  For instance, should I capture all the slides for the current session and then do any post processing.  Just looking for ideas.

Many thanks for your thoughts.

Yes, that's my method-  "Shoot first, Ask questions later!"

Just get your exposure and focus correct in camera then review later to do any development work.

You can have Loupe view active, and auto advance, thus you will see each scan shot on screen as you work should  camera adjustments be needed along the way.

By reviewing (and Developing) later, after scanning multiple slides, you can batch things like White balance, saving a lot of time.

My DIY propensity has resulted in these contraptions-

My flash is wireless and TTL, or I use a LED light. Large negs can be copied on the flat glass (over the opaque 'perspex')

35mm slides I can shoot with an old modified slide viewer (Glass and lower case removed) which allows me to push each slide through and shoot in seconds, 20 or so loaded in the viewer.

I once did a 5000 copy shoot in one day (for a client) using this rig.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.0, Photoshop 27.0, ACR 18.0, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0 .

Thank you so much for that great rundown of your set up.  I am using a 5000K light with a CRI of 95 and by tweaking the white balance on my D-610, I am getting good results.  Using LR-Classis 12.4, just upgraded to Photoshop CC 24.6, Windows 11

Thanks again,
