Light room freezes while importing photos

I updated my Lightroom and ever since I am unable to import photos like I used to. I usually put my SD card in the computer open light room click import choose copy and select the place to copy (separate hard trove with 3GB of memory left) and click import...it get approximately 12 to 15 photos in and then won't go any further. It gets stuck and won't do anything with the other 600 photos.
