Lightroom generated previews not displaying

Whenever I go to generate previews of HDR photomerge or enhance details, it just shows a blank gray screen, although I can manipulate settings and make the image after I perform the action. It also does this when I import photos from a file. I can even mouse over the gray square for a tooltip on the image, but I don't see it.
