Presets

Hello, I'm new to Light Room. I just ordered some presets that I had to "create a preset for" but they don't look like they are transferring over correctly. Exactly how do I use these presets and access them? Even though they are completely different style presets they look like they are transferring over as the same tone. Sorry if this is confusing to explain, I'm new to this!
