Spinning wheel in Lightroom

In Lightroom the program a lagging and the wheel keeps  popping up so its looking for something or the files stuck. I only use Lightroom on my MacBook Pro, no mobile or iPad version. When I reboot it it works fine for a picture or 2 then goes back into the spinning wheel again..... I use Lightroom then go into photoshop.... any ideas
